Collectibles Corner - Weller Pottery

Weller Pottery, one of the more well known Ohio potteries, was founded in 1872 and closed in 1948. They produced a large variety of styles and items, from utilitarian ware to gorgeous art pottery, all of which are highly collectible today.

Book Review - Goldmine Price Guide To 45 RPM Records

The 5th edition of the Goldmine Price Guide To 45 RPM Records lists almost 80,000 records in an easy to use format - alphabetically by artist. You can find the value of your record (depending on rarity and condition) in a matter of seconds!

Included in the information about each record is the release date, the song tiles for both the A side and the B side, the record label that released the record, and more!

There is a very helpful section on grading your records (Mint, Near Mint, Very Good +, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor, etc.), and on how the grading affects the value. Once you have graded your 45, the book has a nice section on how to go about selling it - very handy!

Collectibles Corner - Vintage TV Lamps

TV lamps are one of those things that had a short heyday - from around 1950 to 1960 - and quickly became obsolete. When televisions were first produced the picture was poor, so most people watched TV in the dark, to be able to see the screen better. But soon worry about watching TV in the dark hurting people's eyes became rampant, and the TV lamp was born.

They are designed to sit on top of the TV and are usually lit from the back, to help provide some indirect light, but not enough to interfere with the screen. Once screen technology improved in the early 1960's, the need for TV lamps diminished and they were no longer made.

Most lamps were ceramic, but they were also made of porcelain, chalkware, plaster, and other materials. The most popular lamps were figurals - especially animals.
